Welcome to Our BEST Campaign – Building East Scarborough Together – our major capital campaign to support an 8,500 square foot expansion at the Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough.
The campaign is aimed at raising more than $1.5 million for the building expansion, which will house new program rooms, arts and media studios, a dance studio, and a larger gym.
The building expansion will transform the Club into one of Scarborough’s key community hubs for youth services. It will also show all Torontonians the extent to which strong social services and access to community space can improve the lives of young people living in Toronto’s most underserved neighbourhoods.
The campaign’s first big boost came when local resident David Soknacki, former City of Toronto budget chief and councillor, donated his councillor’s pension – $30,000 – to the Club. We are hopeful that David’s kind gift will send a challenge to others out there that we can all have a role in making sure our neighbourhoods strive to be the ‘BEST’ they can be.
It is anticipated that the building expansion will allow the Club to reach up to an additional 200 youth per day in Kingston-Galloway, identified as one of the 13 priority neighbourhoods by the City of Toronto and United Way. The new space will also allow other community groups and social service agencies to utilize the building for after-hours programs.
