The Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough has been selected as the backbone agency for the Healthy Kids Community Challenge in Scarborough Centre
HKCC has three main areas of focus for the families with children ages 12 years and under. The emphasis will be healthy eating, physical activity and creating healthy behaviours for children. Opportunities for the Central Scarborough that will be taking place over the next few months.
Play Kits– We will hold a train the trainer workshop for staff from Early Years Centres, Resource Centres and other agencies how to facilitate a “Engaging your children in Play’ workshop for the families they serve. The workshops participants will learn how to teach parents to create Play Kits for their families and friends use.(half day)
Building an Active for Life Community Workshop-This workshop is for Managers and Supervisors for agencies that work with children ages 12 years and under. Topics will include the Sport for Life framework, Physical Literacy concepts creating healthy change in your organization and “Becoming a Sport for Life Community”. The workshop will be facilitated by Canadian Sport 4 Life. (half day)Taking place at on May 12 at ESBGC and May 13 at West Scarborough Boys and Girls. Information to follow.
Activity Leaders Training-This will be a full day workshop for front line workers from agencies the serve children 12 years old and under. The goal of the Physical Literacy Workshop is to cover a broad introduction to the concept of Physical Literacy. The participants will take part in an interactive session that will help them define what physical literacy means and how to they can integrate its concepts in their programs using indoor and outdoor activities (full day)
