On Saturday February 6th, 2016 children and youth from East Scarborough Boys and Girls Club took the stage by storm at Bloor Collegiate Institute for the annual Spirit of Expression 2016 Art Showcase. Spirit of Expression is a GTA wide art event showcasing the various talents of children and youth from across 8 different Boys and Girls Clubs across the Greater Toronto Area. Participants from the clubs across the city were able to show off their amazing talents of dancing, singing, instruments, visual arts and spoken word.
Our club had a total of four performances. Raw Energy Jr. performed two dances, the first choreographed by Raquel Simpson and the other by Toronto’s very own Mayhem Brothers. Our next performance was done by 4 members of the club’s He Said She Said Program which is instructed by Youth Staff Faiven Ghirmai. He Said, She Said performed the spoken word piece they created entitled “Diversity”. Our final act was performed by Ismael Paris who is a 15 year old singer/pianist. Ismael sang So Sick by Neyo and had the audience at the edge of their seats.
Overall, The Spirit of Expression 2016 was a huge success and the youth participants had an amazing experience where they got the chance to express themselves artistically and showcase their own unique talents!
The Spirit of Expression also hosted an Art Exhibit where children and youth from across 8 clubs displayed some of their artwork. Our club displayed some of the art created by children and youth in the club’s art program instructed by Amir Akbari called Your Voice.
