April is a very special month. It’s the month that we take the time to honour our volunteers.
“Volunteers are helping hands”, “Volunteers grow communities”, “Volunteers light the way” – we have all heard these quotes. My favourite saying is “The Heart of a Volunteer . . .”; this open-ended statement means more can be added to it, and yet never taken away.
The HEART of a Volunteer extends to the countless and immeasurable value that volunteers bring to our neighbourhoods, communities, country and to our world.
The HEART of a Volunteer helps to relieve the stinging pain of hunger in children suffering in a country, where food is scarce but disease is abundant.
The HEART of a Volunteer rushes in to fight the flames of fire that we run from, but they run to.
The HEART of a Volunteer holds the hand of the dying to provide comfort.
The HEART of a Volunteer sits and reads with a child who is parentless.
How can we “Thank” our Volunteers for all that they do?
By recognizing the HEART that goes into what they do,
and simply saying –
